Had a short but sweet trip to Walmart last night to grab a few of the freebies we have available. I didn’t have time to get everything, but was still able to leave the store with $28.94 in regular retail priced items, with a final total of only $0.92! Walmart pays any coupon overage, so I always try to grab a few of the moneymaker freebies to cut the price of other items I am needing to purchase. It really does add up.
After last night’s visit, I wanted to bring up an issue that I have been having, that I know others deal with as well. Make sure you check your receipt before leaving any store, especially at Walmart. I have had a lot of issues lately where they have taken my coupons, but were not listed on my receipt. My local Walmart store has changed their coupon policy, so if a coupon does not scan, and if it is a printed coupon, they will not manually enter it, even if it should be “good.” Once you leave the store, they are also less likely to stand behind them. So then you lose the coupons, and paid much more than you were supposed to.
I always count the number of coupons I am using per transaction, so I know right away if something has been omitted. Last night I had several missing coupons. I noticed immediately, and the cashier said “If they didn’t scan, then you can’t use them,” but took them and had them in her drawer. However, I knew the coupons were valid. I went to customer service who did not want to credit at first, and said they would go get them from the register drawer, to show me that I could not use them. Regardless, I would have still needed my coupons back. I stayed patient and was friendly, and In the end they had to fix my receipt and credited my refund that was due. They scanned with no issues, and somehow just were not entered by the cashier. The old adage “You can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar,” definitely applies to couponing!
Make sure you are entering every Walmart receipt in the Walmart Savings Catcher app afterwards. It is very rare that I don’t receive at least some payment for an item being advertised locally for a lower price.
